AtomOS 11.02.00 Firmware Release Notes

Shogun Connect upgrade to AtomOS 11

AtomOS 11 is the first major redesign of our bespoke operating system since 2018, and we're excited to offer it as a free upgrade for your Shogun Connect. This upgrade from AtomOS 10 to AtomOS 11 is a one-way process and cannot be reversed, as will permanently reconfigure your Shogun Connect. Please note that this is the only path for future upgrades and bug fixes, AtomOS 10 for the Shogun Connect, will no longer receive any new updates.

Installation Instructions

Atomos recommends that your Shogun Connect is plugged into mains power before commencing the firmware update.

  1. Insert a compatible, formatted SSD into the Docking Station.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file and copy the ATOMSGC.FW file to the root directory of the SSD.
  3. Eject the SSD according to operating system guidelines.
  4. Insert the SSD into the Shogun Connect.
  5. Power on the Shogun Connect and the firmware upgrade process will begin automatically.
Note: If your Shogun Connect is already powered on, you will be prompted to perform the firmware upgrade when a drive containing new firmware is inserted.
  6. Once the upgrade is complete, your Shogun Connect will power itself down.
  7. Power your Shogun Connect back on and the device will automatically complete the update process.
  8. To verify if the firmware upgrade was successfully completed, navigate to the main menu and scroll to the info tab.

New Features of AtomOS 11

Completely overhauled user interface

The visually stunning AtomOS 11 operating system offers a fresh new look with countless optimizations to increase performance, usability, and some impressive new features. We can't wait for you to explore it.

Wi-Fi 6E support

Wi-Fi 6E is less prone to interference and works over a longer range, with even better latency compared to standard Wi-Fi 6. It is backwards compatible with previous Wi-Fi versions, but its extended capabilities will only be available when connecting to other Wi-Fi 6E equipment.

PlaybackAssist

Using the new PlaybackAssist feature, users can create custom ordered playlists, making the review of dailies, or even play out to digital signage or large format displays a breeze.

Scheduled Play is also part of the PlaybackAssist feature set, allowing users to choose the time when the device should start playing back specific files. This could be after a user-defined timer has elapsed, or at a specific time of day.

More details and instructions on how to use PlaybackAssist: https://support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/articles/7743008849807/

RecordAssist

Similarly to PlaybackAssist, the brand new RecordAssist feature allows you to schedule when you want your device to start recording. The recording can start at a specific time, or when your previously configured timer has elapsed. This also applies to the Timelapse function, making RecordAssist a perfect fit for situations where you have to configure your device before an event, or for the early morning hours when capturing a sunrise.

New Colorized Exposure modes

Introduction of two new alternatives to our traditional False Color implementation on Atomos devices: Arri False Color and the EL Zone System invented by Hollywood DP Ed Lachman, ASC.

Note: The Arri and EL Zone System exposure tools can only be activated when our device detects either a Log or RAW Input. It's not selectable on the Shogun Connect when cameras are outputting video with Rec.709 or generic non-LOG picture profiles to it.

Record ProRes RAW with Proxies for C2C workflows

As an exclusive feature for the Shogun Connect, we're introducing the ability to record stunning ProRes RAW clips along with H.265 Proxies that are uploaded to either Frame.io or Sony Ci Media.

Note: Only 16:9 or 17:9 aspect ratios are supported for our ProRes RAW + Proxies workflow at this time.

Please visit our FAQs for a full list of supported resolutions & frame rates for our ProRes RAW + Proxies Camera to Cloud workflow. https://support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/articles/6420322981519/

Matching file names for cinema cameras

As a Shogun Connect and AtomOS 11 exclusive, we added the ability to have matching file names when connected to professional cinema cameras via SDI. This allows the Shogun Connect to use the same file naming scheme these cameras are using for their internal recording, making external proxy recording and advanced C2C workflows more seamless than ever.

The Shogun Connect supports multiple cameras from ARRI, Canon, RED and Sony. Please visit our FAQs for a full list of supported cameras and setup instructions. https://support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/articles/7771039055759/

Note: The updated file naming implementation cannot be used when outputting SDI RAW signals from any of the compatible cameras.

Record and upload 4Kp60 clips in C2C Workflows

By selecting the new "Single Recording" Camera to Cloud mode in Atomos Cloud Studio, Shogun Connect users can now upload high quality 4K clips at up to 60fps to either Frame.io or the Sony Ci Media cloud.

These clips are significantly higher quality than our 1080p and 720p proxies, and they're perfect for quick-turnaround jobs and every scenario where high quality C2C clips will end up in the final edit.

Note: Using this feature requires an active subscription to either the CLASSIC or PREMIUM tier in Atomos Cloud Studio.

4K support for NDI TX & revised NDI menu

In AtomOS 11 we completely redesigned our NDI menu, but more importantly, we now allow you to transmit 4K NDI signals over the network.

Note: 4K NDI TX on Shogun Connect supports frame rates of up to 30fps, and recording is not available when transmitting.

Transmit and Receive wirelessly with RemoteView

Atomos RemoteView lets you share what’s on your Atomos screen with other Atomos monitors on AtomOS 11, as well as with iPads, Macs and Apple TVs. Powered by a unique combination of AtomOS 10 and AtomOS 11 and Atomos Cloud Studio, you can share with the person standing next to you or someone across the globe just as easily. Even use Shogun Connect to receive the RemoteView feed and also loop out to HDMI or SDI too. Also overlay images on each camera source and watermark an image over each monitor output.

Note: Any AtomOS 10 & OS 11 device, or iPhone running the Atomos Pro Camera app can transmit (TX) to a RemoteView session. However, only AtomOS 11 devices, the Atomos – Surface app for macOS and iPadOS, and the Atomos – Monitor Apple tvOS app can be configured to be receiving (RX) devices.
