If you run into any issues using Zato CONNECT, contact [email protected]
Installation Note:
Atomos recommends that your Zato CONNECT is plugged into a USB-C PD power adapter (>20W) or is connected to a freshly charged battery before commencing the firmware update. If you already own a Ninja V or V+, you can also use the NP-F battery eliminator and power supply shipping with either of them, as it's also compatible with Zato CONNECT.
- Factory Reset your Zato CONNECT via the "Reset Device" button in the About Device menu within the General tab to prepare it for the new update.
- Format an SD Card in exFAT or FAT32 via a computer or the Zato CONNECT. You can find more information on compatible SD Cards via this link.
- Download the latest version of AtomOS Lite from: https://my.atomos.com.
- Unzip the compressed package and move the .BIN file to the SD Card’s root directory.
- Ensure that your Zato CONNECT is powered off.
- Insert the SD Card into the Zato CONNECT’s SD Card slot.
- Connect a fully charged battery or USB PD power adapter (>20W) to the Zato CONNECT.
- Press the power button to reboot.
- Zato will go through several update screens and will initially show the Atomos logo without a progress bar.
- The device will reboot several times throughout the update process and will reboot after the installation is complete.
- After the Zato reboots, you'll be presented with a welcome message, detailing the new features introduced in this release.
Note: Factory resetting your device before or after updating your Zato CONNECT is mandatory to ensure that all the new features introduced in this release work properly.
New Features:
Support for the newly introduced Atomos Cloud Studio Subscription Tiers
Subscribers to Atomos Cloud Studio's various subscription Tiers gain a variety of new options when it comes to the Zato CONNECT's Streaming and Frame.io Camera to Cloud capabilities.
For an overview of feature availability based on your ACS subscription, please follow this link: https://cloud.atomos.com/new-plans
Changes to Frame.io C2C Implementation
- Ability to record and upload C2C files at 3 different quality/bitrate levels: LQ, MQ, HQ.
- Introduction of 1920 x 1080 px to 1280 x 720 px downscaling.
- Revised naming of the recording format across AtomOS Lite. If the Zato is switched to Frame.io Camera to Cloud mode, the record format indicators in the top menu bar and the playback file browser refer to the recordings as C2C LQ/MQ/HQ instead of H.264 LQ/MQ/HQ.
Note: Available options may vary depending on your subscription tier.
Changes to RTMP Streaming Implementation
- Ability to stream to YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and Custom RTMP destinations at 3 different quality/bitrate levels: LQ, MQ, HQ.
- Introduction of 1920 x 1080 px to 1280 x 720 px downscaling.
- Revised naming of the recording format across AtomOS Lite. If the Zato is switched to RTMP Streaming mode, the record format indicators in the top menu bar and the playback file browser refer to the recordings as RTMP LQ/MQ/HQ instead of H.264 ST.
Note: Available options may vary depending on your subscription tier.
Operational Considerations:
- When the Zato receives a 1080p input signal but has to downscale to 720p due to its Atomos Cloud Studio configuration, the OUT section in the top bar will display the recording and streaming output signal properties. For 1080p inputs with a frame rate lower than 50p (e.g. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30), the Zato will interpolate to ensure that the HDMI/UVC outputs are either in 720p50/60 to guarantee universal device compatibility. This interpolation only applies to the HDMI/UVC output. The C2C files/streaming output will maintain the original input frame rate.
- Zato CONNECT does not support Atomos Live Production and cannot be added to a Show.
- Zato CONNECT does not support progressive file uploads to the Frame.io platform.
Bug Fixes & General Improvements:
- Resolved an issue where Zato CONNECT struggled to establish streams to YouTube.
- The Zato CONNECT can now connect to Wi-Fi networks that include special characters like "#", "$", "%" in their passwords.
Known Limitations:
- When booting up your Zato CONNECT whilst it's connected to a PC/Mac via the USB-2 port, it may only display a black screen after detecting a 720p HDMI input signal.
- Within the Output menu, USB will always say "No Output", even when it's successfully outputting a UVC feed to your PC/Mac.
- If you're playing back a file from the SD card (PiP or regular playback) the record button will be disabled.
- The AtomX CAST's USB UVC output won't get detected if connected to the Zato's USB UVC input. We recommend connecting to the Zato CONNECT via the CAST's HDMI PGM Out port. The same issue is also present with a few other devices like ATEM mini switchers, where we also advise connecting to the Zato via HDMI.
- 720p sources might not get detected with the correct input frame rate.
- Files recorded using the H.264 presets LQ, MQ, or HQ may not appear smooth in playback mode. However, in the streaming or HDMI/USB outputs, they should appear perfectly fluid.
