AtomOS Lite 10.04.00 Firmware Release Notes

Zato CONNECT

Important Note:

Before accessing the Frame.io service via Atomos Cloud Studio, please ensure that your Zato CONNECT is connected to the internet and that the Time Zone is appropriately set for your current location.

Installation Note:

Atomos recommends that your Zato CONNECT is plugged into a USB-C PD power adapter (>20W) or is connected to a freshly charged battery before commencing the firmware update. If you already own a Ninja V or V+, you can also use the NP-F battery eliminator and power supply shipping with either of them, as it's also compatible with Zato CONNECT.

1. Format an SD Card in exFAT or FAT32 via a computer or the Zato CONNECT. You can find more information on compatible SD Cards via this link..
2. Download the latest version of AtomOS Lite from: https://my.atomos.com.
3. Unzip the compressed package and move the .BIN file to the SD Card’s root directory.
4. Ensure that your Zato CONNECT is powered off.
5. Insert the SD Card into the Zato CONNECT’s SD Card slot.
6. Connect a fully charged battery or USB PD power adapter (>20W) to the Zato CONNECT.
7. Press the power button to reboot.
8. Zato will go through several update screens and will initially show the Atomos logo without a progress bar.
9. The device will reboot several times throughout the update process and will reboot after the installation is complete.
10. After the Zato reboots, you'll be presented with a welcome message, detailing the new features introduced in this release.

Note: If you run into any issues after updating your Zato to AtomOS Lite 10.04.00, head into the About Device menu within the General tab and press the "Unpair ACS" and "Reset Device" buttons to wipe any of the Zato's previous configurations clean.

Support for Frame.io - CAMERA TO CLOUD (C2C)

Upload H.264 recordings to the Frame.io service for remote collaboration in real-time

Operational Considerations & Limitations

• The Zato CONNECT supports HDMI and USB UVC input sources capable of outputting signals in 720p and 1080p resolution with a maximum frame rate of 60 fps.
• If you plan to deliver branded/watermarked content, the Zato can apply PNG overlays with alpha transparency to the recordings via the Overlay menu.
• There is no camera metadata included in the files recorded by the Zato.
• The C2C file upload is currently limited to the Zato's H.264 LQ record mode (5 Mb/s)
• The Zato CONNECT's recording can't be triggered from external devices via Time Code or other triggering methods. The recording can only be started/stopped via the Zato's record button.
• Zato CONNECT doesn't support interlaced input signals.

Setup Guide – Pairing to ACS and Frame.io

Pairing your Zato CONNECT to Atomos Cloud Studio

1. Connect your Zato CONNECT to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet
2. Head into the Date & Time menu and set it to match your location. Doing this sets your time and date automatically via NTP, which is crucial for transferring files to Frame.io correctly.
3. Create a new account on atomos.cloud or log into your existing Atomos Cloud Studio account.
4. Add a new device to your account and enter the three words displayed in the CONNECT menu after pressing the "Pair" button.
5. Give your Zato a nickname to finish the pairing process.

Note: If you've previously added your Zato CONNECT to your account for Streaming, you don't need to add or re-pair it to Atomos Cloud studio again.

Connecting to a Frame.io C2C Project

1. Select Frame.io as the destination in Atomos Cloud Studio.
2. You'll be prompted to log in to your Frame.io account. Enter your login details in this step.
3. In the next dialog, allow Atomos Cloud Studio to access your Frame.io account.
4. Whilst your Atomos Cloud Studio account finishes pairing with Frame.io, you'll be automatically redirected to the Devices tab in ACS.
5. Once paired, you can select a Frame.io project as a media destination for your device.
6. Frame.io will now appear at the bottom of the device card in Atomos Cloud Studio. Activate the toggle switch to establish the connection to the previously selected Frame.io project.
7. Log into your Frame.io account in a new browser window and navigate to the project you defined as a media destination for your device. Proxy files will be sent and stored in the individual camera folder.
8. If you take a look at your Zato's CONNECT menu now, it indicates that the Device Mode is Frame.io C2C. The selected Frame.io project will also appear under Destination.
9. Optional: Within your Frame.io project, we recommend navigating to the tab "C2C Connections" and renaming your Zato to match the nickname given in Atomos Cloud Studio for easy identification.
10. Now that your Zato is linked to a project, your recorded clips will get transfered to Frame.io automatically.
11. After stopping recording, a green arrow in the top left corner of the screen indicates that the file is being uploaded to Frame.io. Once the upload is complete, your Zato CONNECT displays a green circle icon to indicate that the connection is idle, and ready for the next upload.
12. Once your files have made it into the project you selected earlier, they can be moved, copied, annotated, or shared like any other asset in your Frame.io project.

Note: If you want to resume using your Zato CONNECT in a fully-offline workflow where you can record in H.264 MQ, HQ, and XQ mode, uncheck the Frame.io toggle button in Atomos Cloud Studio to disconnect from your C2C project.

Bug Fixes & General Improvements:

• Resolved an issue where Zato CONNECT struggled to establish streams to YouTube.
• Pressing the Play button to bring up the file browser doesn't hide the incoming HDMI/USB UVC feed in the background, enabling uninterrupted monitoring of your files' upload status.

Known Limitations:

• If you're playing back a file from the SD card (PiP or regular playback) the record button will be disabled.
• The AtomX CAST's USB UVC output won't get detected if connected to the Zato's USB UVC input. We recommend connecting to the Zato CONNECT via the CAST's HDMI PGM Out port. The same issue is also present with a few other devices like ATEM mini switchers, where we also advise connecting to the Zato via HDMI.
• 720p sources might not get detected with the correct input frame rate.
• Files recorded using the H.264 presets LQ, MQ, or HQ may not appear smooth in playback mode. However, in the streaming or HDMI/USB outputs, they should appear perfectly fluid.
