Installation Note:
Atomos recommends that your ZATO CONNECT is plugged into a USB-C PD power adapter (>20W) or is connected to a freshly charged battery before commencing the firmware update. If you already own another Atomos product like the Ninja V/V+, you may also utilize the NP-F battery eliminator shipping with either of them, as it's also compatible with ZATO CONNECT.
- Format an SD Card in exFAT or FAT32 via a computer or the ZATO CONNECT. You can find more information on compatible SD Cards via this link.

New Features:
Picture-in-Picture Support
Introducing the ability to add PiP overlays to your program stream by choosing one out of three different sources
- Selectable Picture-in-Picture sources include USB UVC devices like Webcams (via USB-1), HDMI inputs, and also recorded clips from the SD Card.
- Choose USB or HDMI inputs as PiP sources over SD Card playback
- Choose SD Card playback or HDMI inputs as PiP sources over USB
- Choose SD Card playback or USB inputs as PiP sources over HDMI
- PiP sources can be set to 1 out of 4 positions (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right) and 2 sizes (small & large).
- Select PiP sources, positions & sizes via the PiP menu in the Overlays tab.
Note: Whilst playing back recorded files from the SD card, either as the main feed or as a PiP source, recording is disabled on the ZATO CONNECT since you can't record and playback simultaneously. Streaming is available, though, and you can always download the replay of your stream from the streaming platform itself, if you need a local backup.
Note: PiP and Overlay presets can be used simultaneously to enhance the production value of your streams.
Enhanced Quick Access Bottom Row Menu
Configure your PiP setup and toggle Overlay presets without entering the main menus
- Pressing the blue Overlay Button in the bottom menu bar cycles through two states:
- Showing 4 numbered buttons that are linked to the Overlay presets that were previously defined in the Layout menu. Use these to enable or disable your overlays.
- Providing all the controls you need to make on-the-fly adjustments to your PiP configuration, including PiP size, PiP position, and a PiP source selector. These buttons are also linked to your PiP menu settings in the Overlay tab.
Bug Fixes & General Improvements:
- PNG overlays with alpha transparency no longer display with a jagged white outline around them.
- Improved overall compatibility for USB UVC inputs, particularly from RGBlink, Insta360, and OBSBOT cameras where ZATO CONNECT previously displayed a green overlay on the lower half of the frame.
- Selecting a WiFi network, loading a PNG overlay from the file browser, or choosing a clip for playback no longer requires double-tapping the list item. Simply tap once to select, and tap again to confirm your selection.
- Resolved an issue where recordings could be stopped before a full second elapsed, thus resulting in unplayable clips showing up in the playback browser.
- Added support for exFAT formatted SD Cards.
Known Limitations:
- The AtomX CAST's USB UVC output won't get detected if connected to the ZATO's USB UVC input. We recommend connecting to the ZATO CONNECT via the CAST's HDMI PGM Out port. We also advise connecting to the ZATO via HDMI from other multi-input switchers like the Atem Mini.
- Files recorded using the H.264 presets LQ, MQ, or HQ may not appear smooth in playback mode on the ZATO. However, in the streaming or HDMI/USB outputs, they should appear perfectly fluid.
- USB UVC inputs with a frame rate of 23.98fps might be highlighted as No Input in the top menu bar, even though an image is displayed on the ZATO's screen. We advise outputting 24fps, or any other supported frame rate up to 60fps instead.
- Connecting to the ZATO via 720p sources is not advised at this time. We recommend sticking to 1080p resolutions for both the PiP and main input signals.
