Based in Florida, Satesh Ramjattan is a professional landscape and wildlife photographer with nearly 20 years’ experience in broadcast television. Six years ago, he merged his expertise in filmmaking with his passion for photography to create educational nature videos and short documentaries.

Recently, Satesh documented the challenges faced by native wading birds, highlighting the increasing threats to their habitats. Through his work, he aims to inspire viewers and raise awareness about the importance of nature and wildlife conservation. His videos can be found on his YouTube channel, with additional highlights featured on TikTok.

As a solo filmmaker, Satesh values a simple and efficient workflow. He uses a Canon R5 Mark II hybrid camera, allowing him to smoothly transition between images and video footage. He pairs the camera with an Atomos Ninja monitor-recorder to record 8K ProRes RAW content. “Recording in high-res 8K is a game-changer for capturing wildlife shots,” he shares.

For wildlife photography, Satesh uses the Canon RF 100-500mm lens, while his go-to for landscapes is the RF 24-70mm f/2.8. “Both lenses are fast, versatile, and deliver excellent image quality,” he says. To capture audio, he relies on the Zoom M3 MicTrak and uses SSDs for external storage. “I’m often out in the field for several days, so I carry three 1TB SSDs, which allow me to film continuously throughout the day,” he explains.

One of Satesh’s biggest challenges is maneuvering through Florida’s swamps and wetlands while managing his equipment. To overcome this, he ensures his camera rig remains compact and lightweight, allowing him to set up quickly and capture those crucial moments. His camera is equipped with an Arca-Swiss plate on the base for quick and efficient mounting, while Ninja is securely attached directly to the camera’s hot shoe. “The Ninja allows me to travel light without sacrificing quality, and its durability gives me peace of mind on every shoot,” he adds.

“I ordered Ninja as soon as it launched, and honestly, I can’t imagine filming without it.”

Ninja’s bright, 1,000 nit display enables Satesh to easily check focus and exposure levels, even in direct sunlight. “My workflow wouldn’t be the same without the Ninja,” he shares. “It significantly speeds up both filming and editing. I truly value its durability – it’s sturdy enough that I can quickly put it in my bag without worrying about damage. It’s incredibly practical for field shooting, especially when capturing low-angle shots.”

Satesh records 8K high-resolution footage to showcase intricate details and textures, such as the fine feathers of birds or the rugged skin of alligators. For editing, he uses Adobe Premiere Pro to bring his projects to life. “8K ProRes RAW offers outstanding quality and efficiency in post production,” he explains. “The extra data in RAW files enables precise color correction and grading while remaining storage-friendly. I’m consistently impressed by the smooth playback without needing to render my timeline. The 8K resolution provides two key advantages: in my 4K timeline, I can maintain a tight, detailed shot at 100% scale or create a wider composition at 50%, all without compromising quality.”

Overall, Atomos products have significantly enhanced Satesh’s entire workflow. “Atomos has taken my production to the next level. From filming to post production, every detail is sharper, more dynamic, and professional. With so much to handle in the field, having reliable, high-performance gear makes my work far more efficient and boosts my confidence. I ordered Ninja as soon as it launched, and honestly, I can’t imagine filming without it.”
